With only a small coastal road running between the site and the ocean, views of the beach and Southern Ocean are unrestricted, filtered only by mature pine trees. As such, a clear spatial hierarchy has been established to optimise views throughout the building. Rooms are arranged over two storeys and orientated towards the beach. Higher ceilings are used in living areas, while bedrooms and service rooms are standard height. A concrete spine connects all rooms, which branch off from either side and form a series of multipurpose sheltered courtyards in-between rooms. A simple palette of materials including in-situ concrete, rough sawn timber, steel and glass compliment the beach environment.
